INFLUENCES

Jad’s influences are very wide. He is mostly influenced by Anglo-Saxon music. He is very interested in traditional music but loves it when it’s mixed with modern music. That’s why artists such as Shania Twain, the Canadian singer who mixes country music with rock, The Corrs who mix traditional Irish music with rock, Emma Shapplin, the French soprano who mixes opera with pop and Norah Jones who mixes jazz with modern music are the artists he feels the closest to and who are naturally, his musical references. He also loves Elton John, his favourite male singer, Abba, which he considers as the best band ever, The Carpenters about which he says, “Karen Carpenter has the most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard,” Enya, the music coming from the lost lands of Ireland as Jad likes to say, and Dire Straits.

But what makes Jad’s music special is his interest in his own roots. He listened to his parents’ music through the famous Vietnamese show ‘Paris By Night’ and the singer, Nhu Quynh. Singing for years in a traditional Latino choir, he has learned a lot about great South American composers. “Songs I sing in my choir are really great. They teach me a lot about a music very few people have access to in Europe.”
